Musings and updates about the wedding...

Monica, my wedding planner, called me this morning for our week-before rundown of all of the pesky little details for the wedding. There are still a number of things to do, but mostly I feel like everything is under control. My goal is to have the list all checked off by the end of this weekend so I can spend next week focused on getting excited for the wedding!

This past week we hosted both of our mothers in Durham to help us get the house looking nice. They both worked very hard to get everything squeaky-clean and presentable for our out-of-town visitors. Unfortunately, this morning as I was petting Clio I watched in horror as little tuffs of hair flew off of her and settled again in the corners of the house. I guess when you have a dog, you can't expect things to stay clean for long :-)

Last week was a big wedding week for Jp and I. We picked up our rings, met with the harpist for the wedding, consulted with our officiant, and finalized the RSVP numbers. I imagine it'll be a sprint to the end, with wedding errands to run nearly every day between now and June 8!

Jp and I have an appointment next Wednesday to get couple's portraits with our photographer - that's also the day that I'm doing a dry run on my hair. I'm super-excited. Also, tomorrow I'm having my first real fitting on my dress! I'm wearing my mother's bridal gown, but it needed some serious alterations to get the fit adjusted. There have been some setbacks, but now I'm hoping that my tailor and I can get back on schedule. Wish me luck!

This past weekend we did a trial run of putting Clio in a kennel for the weekend. We love our dog, and she loves us, but - German Shepherd that she is - she does not love new people coming into the house. So we decided it would be easiest on everyone (her included) to just put here in a kennel for the wedding weekend. This past Friday I sucked it up and dropped her off, and today when I picked her up I had one happy and tired dog on my hands. The place we picked - Doggie Spa & Day Care - gives the dogs three half hour play sessions with other similarly-matched dogs. Clio ended up in a group with all German Shepherds and shepherd mixes and I think the hour and a half of play a day was ample to make her forget the trauma of being left in a strange place by her owners (or at least that's what I'd like to think). Needless to say, I was very relieved to hear that everything had gone smoothly, and I'm excited to be able to check another thing off of my wedding to-do list.

Last weekend Jp and I finally started our registries! This weekend we will be hiking out in western North Carolina, and in the course of preparing for the hike we realized that we could definitely use some good hiking/camping gear. We've managed to cover ourselves in the short-term with some borrowed gear, but the realization inspired us to go to REI and start a registry there. Once we had gone through the process once I think it was easier to "get back out there", and last night we spent a couple hours at Bed, Bath, and Beyond establishing a registry there as well. So now another part of the website is up and running! At this rate, I'll just barely get everything online in time for the actual wedding :-)

We've started getting reply cards in the mail and now my excitement is kicked into overdrive. Only a little more than a month to go - I can't wait!

More active links! I've put up a short write-up on our engagement (with pictures) and updated the hotels link. I hope to get to the "weekend links" and "durham" links soon.

Jp and I spent last night working on the wedding - I sat in front of the TV assembling invitations while he got busy securing us the domain name ward-lien.net. Pretty soon we hope to host our site directly at that address, but for now it just points over to my Duke account, where the site is stored. I spent most of the day today working on getting the website up and running. Hopefully all of the tabs will be active within the week!
